- Despite belonging to the hyena family, the aardwolf’s main food source is termites, not meat.
- Aardwolves have a highly specialized tongue for lapping up termites. They are one of the few mammals that rely almost exclusively on insects for food. Unlike other hyenas, aardwolves do not scavenge or hunt large prey.
