About the IUCN Red List
The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species is the world's most comprehensive inventory of the conservation status of plants and animals. It classifies species by their risk of global extinction — from Least Concern through to Critically Endangered, Extinct in the Wild, and Extinct.
Conservation status helps prioritise where protection and research are needed most. Browsing by status is a window into which of Earth's animals need our attention.
