Addax
Addax nasomaculatus
The Addax, also known as the white antelope or screwhorn antelope, is a critically endangered desert-dwelling ungulate native to the Sahara. It is easily recognized by its long, twisted horns and pale coat, which helps it reflect the harsh desert sun. The Addax is highly adaptedβ¦
Did you know?
- The Addax can go almost indefinitely without drinking water, obtaining nearly all the moisture it needs from the plants it eats.
- Addax horns can reach up to 1 meter in length and spiral in a unique twisted pattern. Their hooves are broad and flat, specially adapted for walking on loose sand. Addaxes are most active during the cooler hours of dawn and dusk to avoid the extreme desert heat.
