- Despite their bright colors, barbets can be surprisingly difficult to spot as they often remain motionless among dense foliage while calling.
- Barbets excavate their own nesting holes in tree trunks using their powerful beaks. Their loud, repetitive calls are a signature sound of African woodlands. Some species of barbet are important seed dispersers for tropical fruiting trees.
