- Despite their range, African Golden Cats are so rarely seen that most of what scientists know about them comes from camera traps and local folklore.
- The African Golden Cat is closely related to the caracal and serval, but is the only member of its genus. Its fur can change color with age and region, and it is one of the least studied wild cats in Africa due to its elusive behavior.
