- African Jacana chicks can swim and dive underwater to escape predators within hours of hatching.
- African Jacanas are sometimes called 'lily-trotters' for their ability to walk on floating vegetation. Their toes can reach up to 7 cm long, helping them distribute their weight. Males are responsible for incubating the eggs and caring for the chicks.
