- Unlike most frogs, African Reed Frogs secrete a waxy coating they spread over their skin to prevent water loss in hot, dry conditions.
- African Reed Frogs can change their color to blend in with their surroundings, providing excellent camouflage. Males possess a vocal sac that inflates dramatically when calling to attract mates. Some populations can even exhibit polymorphism, with individuals of the same species showing dramatically different color patterns.
