- Despite their size and intimidating appearance, there are no confirmed reports of alligator gars attacking humans.
- Alligator gars can breathe both air and water thanks to their vascularized swim bladders. They are sometimes called 'living fossils' because their lineage dates back over 100 million years. The females can live significantly longer than the males, sometimes reaching ages of over 50 years.
