- Alpacas have only been domesticated for about 6,000 years, making them one of the oldest domesticated livestock species in the world.
- Alpacas come in over 22 recognized natural colors, more than any other fiber-producing animal. They almost never spit at humans, reserving this behavior for other alpacas. Their fleece is naturally hypoallergenic and warmer than sheep's wool.
