- The Amazonian manatee is the only manatee species that has never been found in saltwater environments.
- Amazonian manatees can go without food for months during the dry season by relying on fat reserves. Unlike other manatees, they are exclusively found in freshwater and lack fingernails on their flippers. These manatees are excellent swimmers, often moving silently through flooded forests and river channels.
