- The Amazonian Royal Flycatcher's elaborate crest is so rarely seen that it was once thought to be a myth by early explorers.
- When displaying, the flycatcher raises its remarkable crest, which fans out like a crown and is vividly colored. Their nests can be over a meter long, dangling from branches over water for safety. Despite its bright crest, this bird spends most of its time hidden in dense foliage, making sightings rare.
