- Despite their fearsome reputation, American alligators are known to exhibit parental care, with mothers guarding their nests and helping hatchlings reach the water.
- American alligators can replace each of their 74-80 teeth up to 50 times during their lifetime. They use vocalizations—such as bellows—to communicate, especially during mating season. Alligators are capable of short bursts of speed both in water and on land.
