- Despite their striking appearance, Andean Cock-of-the-rocks can be very difficult to spot in the wild due to their secretive behavior and preference for dense, shadowy forests.
- It is the national bird of Peru, where it is called tunqui. Cocks-of-the-rock are largely fruit-eaters, and by swallowing fruit whole and dropping seeds away from the parent tree they are significant dispersers in Andean cloud forest. Because leks are traditional and fixed in place, destroying a small patch of forest containing a lek can remove the breeding site for a whole neighbourhood of birds.
