- Despite their name, Antelope Jackrabbits are not closely related to antelopes; their name comes from the white flanks that resemble those of pronghorn antelopes.
- Those enormous ears are a textbook illustration of Allen's rule: appendages get longer in hot climates and shorter in cold ones, which is why the Arctic hare's ears are stubby. Antelope jackrabbits will chew into prickly pear pads to get at the water inside. Like other lagomorphs they re-ingest their own soft faecal pellets, extracting a second pass of nutrients from very poor desert forage.
