- Despite being non-venomous, the Arafura file snake is sometimes mistaken for a dangerous species due to its large size and unusual appearance.
- Arafura file snakes have some of the loosest skin among snakes, which helps them hold onto struggling fish. They are one of the few truly aquatic snakes and rarely leave the water. Females are much larger than males, with the largest females reaching over 2 meters in length.
