- Arctic char is the only fish species found as far north as Ellesmere Island, one of the most northerly landmasses on Earth.
- Arctic char can live entirely in freshwater or migrate between the sea and rivers, a behavior known as anadromy. Their coloration can shift dramatically depending on age, season, and whether they are spawning. Some populations are landlocked while others undertake long migrations.
