Did you know?
- Despite living in icy environments with little vegetation, Arctic Hares can dig through snow to find woody plants, mosses, and lichens to eat.
- Arctic hares are the primary winter food of the Arctic wolf and the lynx across much of their range, and hare abundance visibly drives predator numbers. Leverets are born fully furred and are left in a shallow scrape, with the mother returning only briefly to nurse, which limits how much scent she leaves at the site. Their black eyelashes, one of the few dark features on an all-white animal, help cut glare from snow.
