- The Argentine Black and White Tegu can enter a hibernation-like state called brumation during cooler months, slowing its metabolism dramatically.
- Argentine Black and White Tegus can regulate their body temperature seasonally and are among the few reptiles known to exhibit partial endothermy. During the breeding season, males become more territorial and display bright jowls. These tegus are also skilled burrowers, often digging extensive tunnels for shelter.
