- Atlantic blue crabs can change their shell up to 20 times before reaching adulthood through a process called molting.
- Blue crabs can swim sideways and even backwards thanks to their uniquely shaped paddle-like rear legs. Their scientific name, Callinectes sapidus, means 'beautiful savory swimmer' in Greek and Latin. They can regenerate lost limbs over time, which is helpful for survival in the wild.
