- Although known for their singing, only male Atlantic Canaries sing elaborate songs, especially during the breeding season.
- The Atlantic Canary is the original wild ancestor of the domestic canary. Males are especially prized for their complex and beautiful singing, which they use to attract mates. The bird's name comes from the Canary Islands, which in turn were named after dogs ('canis' in Latin), not the bird.
