- Despite being called 'crabs,' Atlantic mole crabs are more closely related to shrimp than to true crabs.
- Atlantic mole crabs can bury themselves in less than two seconds to avoid predators. Unlike most crabs, they lack pincers and rely on their antennae for feeding. Females can carry thousands of bright orange eggs under their abdomen at a time.
