- Atlantic Puffins are sometimes called 'sea parrots' due to their colorful beaks and expressive faces.
- Its colourful bill plates are grown for the breeding season and shed afterwards. Backward-facing spines on the tongue and palate let it hold a dozen or more fish crosswise at once. It beats its wings about 400 times a minute to fly — yet those same wings make it a superb underwater swimmer. Puffins spend most of the year at sea, returning to the same clifftop burrow to breed.
