Did you know?
- The silk produced by Atlas Moth caterpillars is used in some parts of India to make a durable, natural fabric called 'fagara silk.'
- The adult has no working mouth and never eats — it lives a week or two entirely on fat stored as a caterpillar. Its wingtips are patterned to look like snake heads, and it writhes its wings on the ground to complete the illusion. Males find females by scent alone, using huge feathered antennae to detect a few molecules on the night air. Its cocoon yields a durable commercial silk called fagara.
