- Unlike most leeches, the Aye-aye leech is adapted to a mostly arboreal lifestyle and can be found climbing trees in search of its hosts.
- The Aye-aye leech is one of the few leech species known to specialize in feeding on lemurs. It is rarely encountered due to its secretive habits and limited range. Its discovery has provided new insights into the complex web of rainforest ecology in Madagascar.
