- Despite being called a kingfisher, the Azure Kingfisher rarely eats kingfish and is more reliant on small fish, crustaceans, and aquatic insects.
- Azure Kingfishers can hover briefly above water before diving for prey, and they often nest in burrows excavated into riverbanks. Their iridescent blue plumage can appear almost violet in certain lighting conditions.
