- Despite their disjunct populations in East Asia and Iberia, genetic studies have revealed they are two distinct species, once thought to be the same.
- Azure-winged Magpies are highly gregarious and often form flocks of up to 70 individuals. They use a variety of calls to communicate, some of which are unique to specific groups. These magpies display cooperative breeding, where non-breeding individuals help raise the young.
