- Bald Eagles were once endangered in the contiguous United States, but thanks to conservation efforts, their populations have rebounded dramatically.
- Despite its name, the Bald Eagle is not bald; the term 'bald' comes from an older meaning of 'white-headed.' Interestingly, these eagles are known for their impressive aerial courtship displays, which involve locking talons and cartwheeling towards the ground. The Bald Eagle was once on the brink of extinction due to DDT pesticide use, but conservation efforts have successfully restored its population. Unique among eagles, the Bald Eagle builds the largest nests of any North American bird, with some nests weighing over a ton and measuring up to 4 meters (13 feet) deep.
