- Bald Eagles were once endangered in the contiguous United States, but thanks to conservation efforts, their populations have rebounded dramatically.
- Bald Eagles can carry prey weighing up to half their own body weight. Their nests are among the largest of any bird, sometimes reaching over 2.5 meters (8 feet) across. Though called 'bald,' the term actually comes from an old English word meaning 'white-headed.'
