- In some parts of West Africa, Ball Pythons are revered and considered symbols of good fortune and protection.
- A female ball python at the Saint Louis Zoo laid a clutch of eggs in 2020 at an estimated 62 years old, having had no contact with a male for over two decades — a case of either extraordinarily long-term sperm storage or facultative parthenogenesis. Long voluntary fasts are normal for the species, and a healthy adult can refuse food for months, which alarms owners far more than it should. They have vestigial pelvic spurs, small claws either side of the vent, and males use them to stroke females during courtship.
