- Unlike many reef fish, Banggai cardinalfish lack a larval dispersal stage, making their populations highly localized and vulnerable to habitat changes.
- Banggai cardinalfish are one of the few marine fish species that exhibit paternal mouthbrooding, where the male carries fertilized eggs in his mouth. They are also known for their site fidelity, rarely straying far from their small home ranges. In the wild, they often form symbiotic relationships with sea urchins for protection.
