- Despite its toxicity, Baron's Mantella is threatened primarily by habitat loss and collection for the pet trade, not by natural predators.
- Baron's Mantella uses its bright coloration as a warning to predators about its toxicity. Unlike poison dart frogs, it does not manufacture its own toxins but sequesters them from the ants and mites it eats. Males are known for their distinctive, high-pitched calls used to attract mates during the breeding season.
