- Barred Owls can rotate their heads up to 270 degrees to better see their surroundings and hunt prey.
- Barred Owls have extremely sensitive hearing, allowing them to locate prey under snow or dense leaf litter. Unlike many other owls, their eyes are brown rather than yellow. They are known to hybridize with the closely related Spotted Owl where their ranges overlap.
