- A single basket star can have thousands of branchlets on its arms, creating a complex net for capturing food particles from the water.
- Basket stars can coil and uncoil their arms tightly to avoid predators or when not feeding. Unlike most brittle stars, they possess the ability to regenerate lost arms. Their feeding arms are covered in tiny hooks and spines to help trap passing prey.
