- The Beagle breed was developed over centuries and has origins dating back to ancient Greece, but the modern Beagle as we know it was standardized in England in the 19th century.
- Beagles have one of the strongest senses of smell among all dog breeds, with around 220 million scent receptors. Their distinctive baying voice was bred for tracking and alerting hunters. Beagles are often employed at airports and border crossings for detecting prohibited agricultural goods and contraband.
