Did you know?
- The Bengal Slow Loris produces a toxin from glands in its elbows, which it spreads onto its teeth to deliver a venomous bite.
- It is the only venomous primate โ it licks a gland on its arm and mixes the toxin with saliva to make its bite venomous. A mother grooms that toxin into her baby's fur before parking it on a branch while she forages. Its slow, fluid crawl is a strategy: it produces none of the sudden movement a predator's eye is tuned to catch. In the pet trade its teeth are routinely pulled out with pliers.
