- Despite their small size, Black-backed Jackals can defend kills from much larger predators like hyenas and even leopards through teamwork and boldness.
- Black-backed Jackals are among Africa's oldest canid species, with fossils dating back over 2 million years. They often form lifelong pairs and share duties like hunting and caring for pups. Their loud, yelping calls are a common sound in the African wilderness at dusk and dawn.
