- The black rain frog can emit a high-pitched squeak when handled, which is unusual among frogs of its size.
- That adhesive amplexus is a real, well-documented secretion in Breviceps rain frogs, and the pair can remain glued together for days. It burrows backwards, shovelling with spade-like tubercles on the hind feet, and can vanish into soil in seconds. Its permanently downturned mouth and bulging eyes have made it a meme, but the expression is simply the shape of a skull built for a life spent underground.
