- Despite their slender build and arboreal lifestyle, Black Tree Monitors are capable of leaping several feet between branches when hunting or escaping predators.
- Black Tree Monitors have a fully prehensile tail that acts like a fifth limb, helping them balance and grip branches. They are among the most arboreal of all monitor lizards, rarely descending to the ground. Their black coloration provides excellent camouflage among the shadows of dense rainforest foliage.
