- Despite their bright colors, Blue-crowned Motmots are surprisingly hard to spot in the wild due to their stillness and preference for dense foliage.
- Blue-crowned Motmots are known for their habit of wagging their tails like a pendulum when alarmed or communicating. They nest in long tunnels dug into earthen banks, which can reach up to 1.5 meters in length. The racket-shaped tips of their tails result from the birds plucking the barbs off their tail feathers, creating the unique shape.
