Did you know?
- The Blue Morpho's wings appear brown when closed, making it nearly invisible against the forest floor, but flash an electric blue when open, startling would-be predators.
- Blue Morpho butterflies use their brown, camouflaged underwings to hide from predators when resting. Their blue wings are not pigmented, but get their color from microscopic scales that reflect light. Adult Blue Morphos are known to seek out and feed on fermenting fruit, which can sometimes make them appear intoxicated.
