- Despite their bright color, Blue Sea Stars can change shades depending on their environment and age.
- Blue Sea Stars can regenerate lost arms, sometimes even forming a whole new individual from a single limb. Their vivid blue color is due to a unique pigment called linckiacyanin. Some small shrimp and commensal organisms live on the sea star's surface for protection.
