Did you know?
- Blue-tongued skinks can drop their tails as a defense mechanism, but unlike some lizards, the regrown tail is often shorter and less colorful.
- Blue-tongues are among the few lizards that can safely eat toxic prey items other reptiles avoid, and they are widely welcomed in gardens because they eat snails. Newborns are fully independent within days and receive no maternal care beyond birth. The species can live over 20 years, and individual skinks have been recorded returning to the same suburban garden shelter for a decade.
