- Bluegills have been introduced to many countries outside their native range, sometimes becoming invasive and impacting local aquatic ecosystems.
- Bluegills can change their color intensity depending on their mood or during spawning season. They are also capable of producing a grunting sound using their swim bladder. Bluegills are known to form large, circular nesting colonies, sometimes with dozens of nests clustered together.
