- Bonobos are the only great apes that do not kill members of their own species in the wild.
- Bonobos are one of the few animal species known to use sexual behavior for social bonding as well as reproduction. They have a matriarchal social structure where females often hold the highest rank, and conflicts are frequently resolved through affiliative behaviors rather than aggression.
