- Unlike most frogs, the Borneo Eared Frog's 'ear' structures are actually bony crests that help distinguish it from closely related species.
- The Borneo Eared Frog gets its name from the unique bony ridges that resemble ears, though they serve no hearing function. This species can leap remarkable distances between branches in search of prey or mates. Its eggs are laid above water, and the tadpoles drop into the water upon hatching.
