- The Briard is sometimes called the 'heart wrapped in fur' in France due to its affectionate and loyal nature.
- Briards have a double dewclaw on each rear leg, a trait highly valued in the breed. They were favored by Napoleon and served as messenger dogs during World War I. The breed's hearing is so acute that they can often detect the approach of strangers before their owners can.
