- The Broholmer breed was nearly extinct after World War II but was successfully revived in the 1970s thanks to efforts by the Danish Broholmer Society.
- Broholmers have been depicted in Danish art since the Middle Ages. Their name comes from Broholm Castle, where the breed was standardized. While imposing in appearance, they are known for their calm and friendly nature with children.
