- The Brown Pelican was once endangered due to pesticide pollution, but has made a remarkable recovery after DDT was banned in the United States.
- Brown Pelicans are famous for their plunge-diving feeding method, where they drop from heights up to 20 meters to catch fish with their large pouches. Their throat pouch can hold up to three gallons of water and fish. During breeding season, the skin on their throat pouch turns bright red or pink, making them quite striking.
