- The pain from a bullet ant sting is so severe that it's been compared to being shot, which is how the ant got its common name.
- Bullet ants are famous for their sting, which is used in initiation rites by some indigenous Amazonian tribes. Despite their painful sting, they are not aggressive unless provoked. They communicate using stridulation and chemical signals.
