- Despite their enormous size, Burmese pythons are capable climbers and will often ascend trees in search of food or shelter.
- Burmese python digestion is so complete that the animal absorbs the bone of its prey, dissolving calcium and phosphorus directly. Heat-sensing pits along the upper lip let it target warm-blooded prey in total darkness, effectively giving it a thermal image of a rabbit. In Florida the snakes have been found swimming in open salt water and have reached the Keys, meaning saltwater is not the barrier that was hoped.
