- At one point, the Burmese Star Tortoise was considered functionally extinct in the wild until intensive conservation efforts began to reverse their decline.
- Burmese Star Tortoises can recognize individual keepers and learn to associate them with food. Their striking shell patterns are unique to each individual, much like a fingerprint. Conservation breeding programs in Myanmar have successfully reintroduced captive-bred tortoises back into the wild.
